Recycled Spectacles and Hearing Aids, Metal, Copper and Wire from Electrical Appliances. 

In March 2013 Stafford Lions took over the collection of used spectacles from Stafford Rotary Club.

Recycled spectacles help visually impaired people in countries such as Ghana, Papua New Guinea, Nepal and Nigeria.

We now also recycle used hearing aids.

Since March 2013 when we took over spectacles recycling we have sent off  40,000 used spectacles and 1669 used hearing aids

Where you can donate unwanted spectacles and hearing aids:

Unwanted spectacles, sunglasses and hearing aids can be handed in at:

ASDA Superstore.

OR Boots Opticians 39 Gaolgate Street (the opticians not the main Boots Store)

OR A  collection boxes at Stafford Hospital in the corridor outside the Out Patient’s Department.

OR at Webb &Lucas Opticians, 8 Bridge Street, Stafford

What happens to the recycled spectacles?:

In March 2013 Stafford Lions took over the collection of used spectacles from Stafford Rotary Club.  Since we took over we have sent off:
40,000 used spectacles
1669 used hearing aids 
6 large boxes of used blister packs

The used spectacles are sent off to the Lions Headquarters in Birmingham.  The good spectacles are sent to help visually impaired people in countries such as Ghana, Papua New Guinea, Nepal and Nigeria.   The material from broken spectacles are recycled.

We also recycle used hearing aids and used blister packs.

The demand for hearing aids continues to grow with requests for support from many parts of the world.As an example during 2013 Lions were able to support projects with donations of hearing aids in Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Peru, Senegal, Gambia, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Lesotho,
Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Kenya, Ethiopia, Zanzibar, Madagascar, Ukraine, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Burma, Cambodia, China, Philippines and  Papua New Guinea.

Chichester Lions Club have been recycling glasses for over 30 years.

They receive used spectacles from Lions Clubs throughout the UK. They have a workshop in which volunteers sort them in preparation for onward transmission to Medico France in Le Havre. Medico France have the necessary equipment to clean and grade the spectacles ready for use in eye camps in Africa, India, Nepal and Eastern Europe
